Which content management system, shop software or website builder runs a website? webXtrend detects it on the homepage of every website with content it crawls, and counts every day. On 30 October 2026, 16,850,504 websites were analysed, and a system was detected on 6,173,622 of them (36.6 %). The most used is WordPress with 55.5 % of all detected systems.
All systems
Every system webXtrend detects, by the number of websites that run it. The share among detected systems is what is usually called market share: of all websites on which a system was found, how many run this one. WooCommerce is an extension of WordPress and is counted on top of it, not instead of it. The top 100,000 column counts the websites of the Tranco list, 8,113 of which have content we analysed.

How the system is detected
webXtrend reads the homepage of every website it crawls and looks for what each system leaves behind. A website that names its system in its generator tag counts for that system, with the version if it gives one. Without the tag, the paths only a system creates decide, such as WordPress’s wp-content, followed by the content delivery networks of hosted platforms: a page that loads its images and scripts from Wix, Shopify or Squarespace runs on that platform. A system that leaves no trace, a site built by hand and most headless setups count as not detected.
Each website counts once, with the system seen on its last visit within the past 30 days. Only homepages are analysed, so a shop on a subdomain or a blog under /blog counts for whatever the homepage runs on.

Why is no system detected on so many websites?
Many websites are built without a system that leaves a trace on the homepage: hand-written pages, frameworks, headless setups that render on a server of their own, and installations that remove the generator tag on purpose. webXtrend only counts a system where the homepage shows it.
Can I get a list of all websites using a system?
Not as a download yet. The API’s /lookup returns the system of any domain you send it. If you need a complete list for one system or one country, contact us.
